Engelbert Humperdinck

Engelbert HumperdinckHis name comes from the 19th century Austrian composer who wrote “Hansel & Gretel.” His voice comes from heaven, and he has been a legend in the international music industry for the last forty plus years, with over 150 million records sold.

Some of the evergreen hits that belong to Engelbert include:(Please) Release Me, After The Lovin, Spanish Eyes, The Last Waltz, Am I That Easy To Forget , There Goes My Everything, Les Bicyclettes de Belsize, Winter World Of Love, This Moment In Time, Cant Take My Eyes Off You and the unforgetable Quando, Quando ,Quando.

Engelbert Humperdinck has recorded everything from the most romantic ballads to the platinum-selling theme song “Lesbian Seagull” for the latest Beavis and Butthead movie. His remarkable voice and extraordinary talent has endeared him to millions of fans around the globe with the MTV generation having just “discovered” what a magnificent musician the rest of the world has celebrated for decades.

Few people realize that several of the major forces in the world of rock n’ roll, including Jimi Hendrix and The Carpenters, started out as opening acts for Humperdinck in the late’60’s, 70’s and ’80’s.   Lets not forget Humperdinck taking #1 away form the Beatles, as well

In 1999 “Humper” recorded The Dance Album as his first album in the dance genre. Released by the red-hot dance label Interhit Records, the album featured newly recorded dance versions of six of Engelbert’s greatest hits, along with five original songs. Favorites such as “Quando, Quando, Quando” and “Release Me” are set to an infectious dance beat by dance producer/ remixers Chris Cox and Barry Harris, known collectively as Thunderpuss 2000. The album has enjoyed tremendous success, with “Release Me” hitting Top Ten in the Billboard Dance charts. Says Billboard magazine of The Dance Album: “…brilliantly cool…one of the most fun pop/dance albums of the decade.”

With four Grammy nominations, a Golden Globe for “Entertainer of the Year” (1988), 63 gold and 24 platinum records and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Humperdinck might rest easy on his laurels. Hardly. In the past few years, he has joined in elite group of musical artists, such as Tony Bennett and Burt Bacharach, who have crossed over successfully to strike a new chord with a younger generation in addition to their core audiences. The Humper has appeared on several MTV programs, including two appearances on “MTV Beach House”, “Chilling with the Weaze” and “Oddville.”

Engelbert Humperdinck came into this world as Arnold George Dorsey, one of ten siblings. His father served in the British military, and his mother taught violin and had an operatic voice. They all lived in Leicester, England and the young lad from Leicester developed strong and enduring family values imparted by his parents. At the age of eleven, Arnold George Dorsey began to study saxophone.

When he was seventeen, Engelbert found himself playing at a pub that sponsored a singing contest. Goaded by his friends to enter, he put down his sax and for the first time revealed another vocal talent: impersonations. Arnold George Dorsey gave the worlds finest impersonation of Jerry Lewis- Jerry Lewis still thinks so-and was quickly dubbed Gerry Dorsey by his fans. It became his professional stage name. Furthermore, he never picked up the sax again.

Gerry Dorsey was very popular on the UK music circuit until he contracted tuberculosis, which silenced him for six months and nearly snuffed out his rising star. Many people assumed his career was finished. Upon regaining his health, Gerry Dorsey knew he had to bury his old, somewhat tainted image to make a comeback as a strong, dynamic performer, still tall, dark handsome and somewhat mysterious. His manager suggested the new name Engelbert Humperdinck. It was just outrageous enough to be memorable. It would take a man with a secure self-image and sense of humor to pull it off. And thus was born the soon-to-be legend, Engelbert Humperdinck.

Few people realize that it was Humperdinck, not Elvis, who made famous the sideburns and flamboyant leather jumpsuits. Engelbert often jokingly asserts that Elvis “stole” the image from him. Nevertheless, the two legends often performed one another’s songs, and enjoyed a lasting friendship until Elvis’ death. Humperdinck has always enjoyed a healthy rivalry with Tom Jones, and the two actually partnered for ten years and shared a manager for many, many more.

Romance serves as the core of Engelbert Humperdinck’s music and lasting success. He knows how to pick songs with eternal themes of love and longing, and lovers always want to hear them sung.

Engelbert recently completed recording his first duets CD “Engelbert Calling.” Featuring brand tracks with a who’s who of the music world, including Sir Elton John, Willie Nelson ,Shelby Lynne, Charles Aznavour,Johnny Mathis, Cliff Richard Neil Sedaka, Dionne Warwick, Kenny Rogers, Lulu , Beverly Knight and Gene Simmons, to name a few.

Sir Elton said his new recording pal was “one of the sweetest and nicest people I have ever worked with.” He went on, “We had a great time singing together. He is 76 years old and still sounding as good as ever.”

“I am truly thrilled to be working with some of the greats of show business on this new CD,” Engelbert recently said.

“Engelbert Calling”was produced in London and Los Angeles by Grammy award winning producer Martin Terefe (Train, Jason Mraz, James Morrison). The CD was released in the UK on March 17 and immediately entered the HMV Albums chart at #3 and was granted Album Of The Week at BBC Radio 2. Top 20 chart CD entries in Australia and New Zealand followed its May release.

“Engelbert Calling” will be released in USA and rest of world on September 30 2014  – Get ready to connect with Engelbert!

Engelbert is happily married to his wife of almost 50 years Patricia. The couple has 4 children and 9 grandchildren. Engelbert is managed by his son Scott Dorsey/Dorsey Productions.

dovetail_fireDovetail is an American band from Dallas, Texas, fronted by singer/songwriter Philip Creamer. Joined by brother and co-writer Daniel Creamer, the band is a family of creative free-spirits in pursuit of the high and lofty. Giving much credence to their musical predecessors, the band lives in a magic place of sonic discovery.

Clearly drawing much of their musical inspiration from 60s and 70s era rock and roll, Dovetail taps into the simple yet dynamic arrangements and huge-sounding vocal productions of bands like The Beach Boys, The Byrds and The Beatles. Still, the band is able to create a fresh and modern sound, with frontman Phillip’s voice channeling the likes of Tom Chaplin of Keane, or at times, Matthew Bellamy of Muse. Fans of classic rock or of more modern bands like My Morning Jacket, Radio Head, Arcade Fire, Portugal The Man and Dr. Dog will likely connect with Dovetail’s music..

As a testament to the band’s tremendous songwriting capabilities, Dovetail holds the prestige of winning the 2012 John Lennon Song Writing Contest in the category of Rock Song Of The Year with their song “Julie” which appears on their debut album, Mount Karma.

The Musgraves

The MusgravesUK roots-pop four piece, The Musgraves, sing of love and heartbreak like many of their folk-influenced contemporaries, but do so without the frequently prevailing melancholy. This brighter, more cheerful quality clearly reflects the band’s influences of early rock and roll from the Phil Spector era to Motown, producing a sound that could be described as something like The Beach Boys meets Mumford And Sons. Armed with acoustic guitars, violin, banjo, glockenspiel and of course Matthew Bennett’s soulful voice, The Musgraves deliver uplifting pop songs, with simple hooks designed to be catchy and memorable. Spring-loaded handclaps and irresistible sing-along choruses cradle often bittersweet tales of love, friendship and, ultimately, identity, providing unexpected levels of depth to their rootsy, pop anthems in waiting.

With a ‘Q The Music Track of the Day’ in the bag and a BBC 6Music Record of the Week for the infectious ‘So Sofia’, further airplay on BBC Radio 2, Q Radio and Ireland’s 2FM – plus growing support from BBC regional radio stations across the UK, Midlands based roots-pop four piece The Musgraves established themselves as ‘ones to watch’ in 2012 via their critically acclaimed debut EP, ‘Lost In Familiarity’. Their debut UK single, ‘Last Of Me’, was championed by Graham Norton on his BBC Radio 2, with the TV personality inviting them to appear on his BBC television talk show.

The Musgraves’ 11 song debut album You That Way, I This Way was released in the US via OK!Good Records on April 16, 2013 and could quite possibly be the anti-depressant to the recent surge of bitter-sweet anthems of love and loss from bands like The Lumineers, Of Monsters and Men, and The Head And The Heart.

Jon Allen

Jon AllenBritish troubadour, Jon Allen found success early on when his song “Going Home” was featured in a 2008 UK advertisement for Land Rover. With the song selling more than 20,000 downloads via his website, Jon’s critical acclaim continued to grow in England with rave reviews, an appearance on Later With Jools Holland, and five singles playlisted on BBC Radio 2. Equally talented as a vocalist and guitarist, Jon’s songwriting skills have provided the perfect soundtrack for hit prime-time TV shows such as “Homeland” and “Bones,” along with Hollywood blockbusters “The Oranges” and “Safe Haven.”

The Devon born, raspy voiced singer-songwriter made an impression in the US with his 2012 OK!Good release, Sweet Defeat. Showing an impressive air of confidence and maturity in his songwriting, Sweet Defeat seamlessly transitions from solo acoustic, finger picked songs to upbeat and instantly memorable band anthems.

Now in 2014, Jon is set to release his highly anticipated new album, Deep River on July 8th via OK!Good Records in the US and Canada. Deep River sees Allen paying tribute to great tunes of the past; mixing catchy Sixties-inflected rock, soul, and country blues. With vocals that are eerily reminiscent of a young Rod Stewart, the album finds Jon Allen channeling his wide range of influences with songs covering relationships, moving on, and finding oneself.

A Genuine Freakshow

2485_originalA Genuine Freakshow are an artful blend of pop sensibility, icy soundscapes and blistering walls of noise. Their sound, while impressively focused, covers a range of musical staples, with the group letting influences from Mew to Sigur Ros and The National surface throughout. Their songs capture quirky and catchy pop akin to Pulp in their pomp and grandeur – and even geeky charm. This ability to combine the poppy elements of indie rock whilst maintaining an intricate, delicate soul is what they do best. With a line-up that adds violin, cello and trumpet to the standard rock four-piece of guitar, bass, drums and vocals, their live shows are a demonstration in how to do epic without slipping into pompous.

After finding their equilibrium as a seven-piece lineup in 2008 with several self-released singles, the group settled into a touring schedule that saw them play over a hundred live festival, showcase, and headline tour shows from 2009 onwards, recently culminating in a televised performance of their set from the Reading Festival in late summer 2011. With early support from BBC radio’s Tom Robinson and Steve Lamacq helping them on their way, the journey of this firmly bonded septet has taken place through the old-fashioned world of word-of-mouth and touring. In 2010 they headed into the studio to record their debut album, Oftentimes.

After playing over 150 headline and festival shows, April 2012 saw the band take a step away from the road and head to the studio again with long-term collaborator and producer Jordan Fish to record a handful of new songs the band had written and been performing live over the previous summer. The result of those recording sessions is the band’s latest offering, a 4 track EP entitled Where The River Bends.

The Trip

The Trip - On The First TimeWhat happens when you add 1 part Canadian and 1 part Australian? Nobody knows, but this little experiment will go on. After spending lots of time down in Australia, The Trip have decided to make North America our home. Spending time in between their beloved Canada and Los Angeles, The Trip aim to travel the road as far as it will take them, playing their music and eating at road stop diners till their hearts stop.

Described as a keen-edged fusion of danceable electronic rock and often compared to early Red Hot Chili Peppers, Maroon 5, and The Script with an added funk twist, The Trip’s self-titled debut is filled with catchy hooks and melodies that please the ear and make the feet want to start moving. With the release of their album, The Trip caught the attention of some big names like ESPN and MTV, who named “On The First Time” their video of the week. With a new album under their belt, these self-proclaimed frisbee champions are ready to take the US by storm. This trip has only begun.

A Genuine Freakshow’s “Oftentimes” now available!

Read the press release below:

New indie label startup OK!Good Records is proud to announce the North American release of “Oftentimes,” the debut album from the seven piece English pop-rock outfit, A Genuine Freakshow. The album will be available on iTunes, Amazon and at major retailers on Tuesday, April 24th. However, impatient fans don’t have to wait for the official release date to hear the album. OK!Good Records has pre-released the album on their website (http://www.okgoodrecords.com), where it can be streamed for free and also purchased.

“Oftentimes” is the first full length to come from A Genuine Freakshow, who have already begun to make a name for themselves in the UK with a tremendously unique sound that takes a traditional approach to pop songwriting but colors it with a dynamic pallet of orchestral timbres. Now that their music is crossing the pond, the band finds themselves in comparison to other indie rock American favorites such as Arcade Fire and Of Monsters and Men who have a similar knack for the tastefully grandiose. Yet, A Genuine Freakshow have truly found their sweet spot and carved out their own niche, creating a style of music that is intricate but unafraid of big melodies, as witnessed throughout the album and in particular on the lead track, “I Can Feel His Heartbeats” and the forthcoming single “Hopscotch Machine Gun Madness.”

Throughout the past year A Genuine Freakshow have been touring relentlessly, building a word-of-mouth fan base that saw them host a sell-out night at London’s Bush Hall alongside over 80 headline shows up and down the UK. With a line-up that adds violin, cello and trumpet to the standard rock four-piece of guitar, bass, drums and vocals, live shows are a demonstration of how to do epic without slipping into pompous.

1. We Are The Undercurrents
