Watch FAIRCHILD’s “Stay Young (Midnight Mix)” Music Video

FAIRCHILD - Stay Young (Midnight Mix) Music VideoFollowing up the music video for “Arcadia,” comes FAIRCHILD‘s video for “Stay Young (Midnight Mix).” The track is an OK!Good Records exclusive from the North American release of their Sadako EP.

Filmed by the band and their crew, the video chronicles their tour in Japan, a country that has always been a special place to the band, by giving them their first overseas tour. The EP’s simple, almost abstract title harks back to their respect for the country, drawing from American author Eleanor Coerr’s, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, which tells the story of a Japanese girl who was two years old when the devastating Hiroshima atomic bomb was dropped.

Originally from the Australia’s Gold Coast, FAIRCHILD are now based in Manchester, UK where they have been breaking into the music scene, with upcoming gigs in support of Indie Week.

FAIRCHILD’s sophomore EP, Sadako is available now in the OK!Good web-storeiTunes and Amazon. The EP is available for streaming on Spotify and Bandcamp.

Singer-songwriter Janet Devlin’s Interview With Substream Magazine

Janet Devlin 'Running With Scissors' PromoIrish singer-songwriter Janet Devlin has gone from YouTube sensation to The X-Factor UK contestant and is now taking on the music world on her own at the only 20 years old. Janet has just released her debut album, Running With Scissors, back in February 2015. Janet continues to explore herself as an artist with some self-reflection and a look back at past experiences. Substream Magazine had the chance to sit down with Janet and discuss topics ranging from not having a “normal” life to performing for the Dalai Lama. Check out some of the interview below, but be sure to head over to SubstreamMagazine.com to read more.

You haven’t had the normal youth, to say the least. But your education has been other aspects. I mean, from the moment that you started on The X Factor to now, what are some of the biggest changes you’ve seen within yourself as a person?
It all started like when I was 15 and I started a YouTube channel. And by the age of 16, I had 15,000 subscribers on the YouTube channel and then went on TV. My youth has been very strange. Like, I pretty much grew up on TV in front of a lot of people and I had a, it was very strange, because a lot of people get time to figure out who they are and things, whereas I had to figure out who I was pretty fast. But it was actually very beneficial for me, because I needed to know who I was. And it’s really helped me like, just with a lot of things that people would find very stressful, I’m quite actually all right with, cause I know who I am and am confident in who I am and things. So, it really did help me discover myself, and I think by, I think I know a lot about myself for someone who’s 20. I’ve had quite a lot of experience in my life so far. Like, I’ve traveled a lot, I’ve done a lot of gigs, I’ve done so much stuff; I’m very, very blessed and I can’t forget that.

Is there one particular experience you can think back to where you realized, “Wow, my life isn’t normal?”
Yeah, there’s quite a few, but I think the biggest one was when I was asked to perform for the Dalai Lama. That was one where I was like, “That doesn’t happen to normal people.” I’m very big into my spirituality as well, so whenever I got asked for that, I was like, “What? No, no, really?’ I can’t turn down the Dalai Lama! So, yeah, that was just insane.

There are a lot of themes about self-perseverance and standing up for yourself on your album. Was that the message you wanted to send?
There’s one theme through the album is that it’s all personal. It’s all about my life and everything that I’ve gone through. But I feel like it’s about my personal life, which is things most people have gone through. Like most people have gone through a bad breakup, most people have had a massive crush on someone. A lot of people have struggled with growing up, a lot of people have struggled with dealing with life which is the song called “Lifeboat” which talks about helping yourself, teaching yourself how to swim. You know, it’s pretty much just the diary of me. And I think there’s a couple of things in there that might help people, which would be cool. I’ve had people come up and say that the album has helped them, which is the most amazing feeling ever. I can’t even put that into words.

Janet Devlin’s Interview With The Music Obsession

JD - Alone in woodsJanet Devlin has been featured on The Music Obsession for her recent interview with the music blog. Janet spoke with The Music Obsession about her debut album Running With Scissors, as well as The X-Factor, social media, and living out her dreams.

Ideally, what would you like listeners to get from the album? Is there a certain feeling or message you wanted to share?
Every song has a different message in it. I ‘spose you’ll find whatever you’re looking for in it. If you’ve ended a relationship recently, there’s a couple of songs on there for you, if you’re struggling with life there’s a couple of songs in there for you, and growing up songs and coming to terms songs..  so I feel there’s a lot of something in there for everybody. And even some upbeat happy-go-lucky trippy songs to drink to. [laughs]

What was one major thing that you learned from that whole X-Factor experience?
I was only 16 when it happened. I was in school and stuff so it taught me kind of how to stand up for myself even though I was quite shy and reserved,  that if someone is trying to change you you’ve just gotta stand up and just say ‘no.’

You seem to have a really great presence on social media. Has that helped you connect with fans while you’re traveling?
I’m pretty much on all social media: Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Instagram and stuff. It’s great to be able to directly contact fans and for them to be able to directly contact me. It’s really cool and that’s probably why I’m so proactive on it. I get to reach people that I wouldn’t necessarily get to reach and I do these gigs online that are streamed worldwide. I try to do 2 gigs whenever I do it and I suspect different time zones so people from around the world can choose whenever to watch a gig they wouldn’t necessarily see, so that’s probably my favorite thing about social media is those gigs.
Janet ended the interview with a nice message for the fans. “Thank you to anyone who has actually taken the time out to listen to the record. That’s the really important thing because they don’t have to listen. A lot of them didn’t even have to buy it, you know what I mean? So it’s really cool that they’re so supportive, especially over here in the states – everyone’s being so nice so I hope that continues.”
