Janet Devlin Featured on The Alternate Roots: On The Radar
Janet Devlin was recently featured on The Alternate Roots in their On The Radar section for Wednesday, February 11th for her debut album Running With Scissors, which was released on February 10th.
Janet Devlin plays the hostess on her most recent release, Running with Scissors, welcoming listeners to come on in and ‘let me introduce you to my skeletons’ (“Wonderful”). Janet Devlin has a knack of wearing the skin of her characters by using a naive tease to her vocals. Growing up in Northern Ireland, she learned to love music through the songs of Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers, developing songwriting and entering singing contest to scrape together money to buy a set of drums. Janet Devlin catapulted her career by appearances on Season 8 of Britain’s The X-Factor television show. Running with Scissors floods the dreams of Janet Devlin with powerful swaths of sound and the tinkling of a wind-up toy as she drifts over “Whiskey Lullabies”; trips out of heart matters on a bouncing beat on “Hide and Seek” and sparkles to light the sky with starlight and gently plucked guitar notes on The Cure’s “Friday I’m in Love.”
