Singer-songwriter Janet Devlin Featured on Philly.com

Singer-songwriter Janet Devlin has been featured on Philly.com prior to her upcoming show in Philadelphia on Friday, July 3rd at the World Cafe Live. Janet recently Skyped with Philly.com, in which they spoke about her debut album Running With Scissors, bullying, and her upcoming tour dates.

“Wake up every day like you’re Beyonce.” That’s the advice that Irish singer-songwriter Janet Devlin has for girls struggling with low self-esteem. “I was bullied especially for being different and weird. It was really strange to go from being that weird kid to [people] somehow accepting you for being this shy, weird child, for doing this sing-y thing,” says Janet. It’s guidance she gives herself, too. She’ll give it a try when she comes to World Cafe Live.

Janet’s debut album Running With Scissors was released February 2015 and consists of 10 tracks of folk-pop tinged with light ukulele and allusions of triumph- like a female Jack Johnson for quirky teenagers.“I turned down record deals that were worth a lot of money so I could pursue making the album I wanted to make,” Devlin said. “I realized if I just continued and released that album … I would’ve rather not had have to go through that.” This album would not have existed had the once timid Janet not have found her voice and stood her ground.
