Engelbert Humperdinck Featured in Providence Journal
Engelbert Humperdinck was featured in an article for the Providence Journal. The article excites fans for Engelbert Humperdinck’s return to Rhode Island as a part of his North American Tour. Engelbert Humperdinck will be performing Sunday, October 12th at the Park Theatre in Cranston.
This performance in Cranston comes shortly after the release of Engelbert Calling, which is Engelbert Humperdinck’s first ever duets album. This album features duets with musical legends such as Elton John, Gene Simmons, Wynonna Judd, Willie Nelson and many others. “This has been a labor of love. It was two years in the making because it was difficult to get the caliber of people we wanted to be on this record. Thank God for technology,” Humperdinck says, noting that he was able to record together with only some of the musicians. Others separately recorded their tracks, which were then mixed in the studio.
The article recognizes just how long Engelbert Humperdinck has been in the music business. He has spent a lifetime reinventing himself, which he credits for his perennial popularity. Born Arnold George Dorsey, the singer had a manager who suggested a new name that was “just outrageous enough to be memorable.” Forty-seven years later, he is still “constantly updating” his image, his music and himself.
“It’s like cell phones — they’re always coming out with a new one! I don’t rest on my laurels. I want it to be fresh,” Humperdinck says. “I’m getting a younger demographic now, but I’ve always had appeal across the board. … That’s what keeps me relevant, a place where every artist should be.”
