“You don’t have a career that spans over 50 years without having something, and Engelbert Humperdinck is a singer who totally understands how to interpret a tune and make it his own. What will catch any who listen to this latest release is how freaking good this collection of songs is.”

The “freaking good” collection of songs that make up the track-listing of Humperdinck’s new album is what sets it apart from the singer’s long discography of roughly 81 albums. By mixing new original songs crafted by a stellar array of songwriters alongside unexpected covers and reinterpretations of radio hits, Humperdinck has created a cohesive album focused on his life and his love for his wife of 53 years, Patricia.

“Humperdinck’s versions of such contemporary hits as Bruno Mars’ Just the Way You Are and Ed Sheeran’s Photograph are truly powerful. When he sings the line “loving can hurt sometimes/but it’s the only thing I know,” there is so much emotion and none of Sheeran’s frequent schmaltz. Of course, when you are dedicating an album to your wife of 53 years who is suffering from advance stage Alzheimer’s, lyrics about never being alone or being forgotten resonate fiercely.”

Derdeyn went on to highlight the opener, “Absolute Beginner,” which he says, “does indeed sound like a song from an artist 60 years younger” and claims there “won’t be a dry eye” by the album’s closer, “Our England.”

I have this new CD and it is absolutely the best CD I own. I love all of this man’s music, but this one takes his music to another level. The mature voice of Englebert today is fabulous. This whole Valentines gift set is such a wonderful gift to give to that someone special in your life! I bought two of these gift sets, one for me and one for my grandson to give to his special lady! She will love it for sure!!
