Music Is My Radar Reviews Janet Devlin’s ‘Outernet Song’
Singer-songwriter Janet Devlin is still celebrating the release of her catchy new single ‘Outernet Song,’ which was released last month. The irresistibly catchy new single has been receiving rave reviews worldwide. The one thing I adore about Janet is her sticky sweet vocal tones. Just hearing this number makes me anticipate the release of the sophomore LP Holy Water which is being written as we speak. Delivered at a fast pace this masterpiece of a song had spectacular verses and a killer chorus. Honestly just listening left me grinning from beginning to end.
I must say this is one hell of a pop song and the music video was a work of art. The delightful Outernet Song had quirky lyrics which mention about the obsession with both the internet and social media “I’ll do anything for a like/ Anything for a share/ Anything for a re tweet/ To gain more followers”. Basically this showcased Janet’s impeccable song writing skills to perfection. On my first play of this single I was left utterly enthralled.
“This song has long history. I started writing it on my ukulele when I was 19. Too many mornings spent watching TV and being told how to dress, how to look, and what to eat had worn away my confidence” Devlin said of this delicious number.
Over the past couple of years Janet found herself adding to the lyrics, including more verses penned in response to some of the criticism she’s faced in her YouTube comments. “I discovered negative remarks about my appearance, unkind assessments of my talent and apparently being over the hill (at age 20!). I soon became pretty desensitised to it all and learnt to ignore them; but not before writing down how I felt to help me process my feelings and move on”.
Maybe Janet has a point when she sings “Someday/ We should venture to the Outernet”.
