Janet Devlin’s ‘Running With Scissors’ Reviewed by SRO Mag Inc.

SRO Mag Inc. Review - Janet Devlin 'Running With Scissors'Janet Devlin’s debut album, Running With Scissors continues to receive positive reviews since its February 10th release. The latest review comes from SRO Mag Inc. (Standing Room Only Magazine), an online entertainment magazine dedicated to bringing readers music news and bands that are both mainstream and under the radar.

Writer & Associate Editor Alicia Williams broke down the album track-by-track, highlighting some of her favorites:

Track 4:Lifeboat” In this song, she talks about being ok and sends a positive message of being able to be happy just being herself. The chorus says it all. “I don’t need a lifeboat/I’m learning how to swim/It may look like I’m drowning, but I’m learning how to live/I don’t need your rescue for I am ok now/I can see the shoreline so turn your lifeboat around.” The positive message of strength and courage to face life alone really grabs at my heart strings. It is hard for most to imagine having to be content with our own independence, but this is an astonishing way to look at it. This is a wonderful song with a powerful message. It is, undeniably, one of my favorite tracks on the album.

Track 8: “Friday I’m In Love” This song is one of my favorites on the album. I was skeptical when I saw this track listed, because I am a huge fan of The Cure; however, she does a fantastic job on this cover. Her vocals are amazing and the acoustic guitar adds a nice touch to this classic. The tempo is much slower than the original, but it works well with her style. I was very impressed by her ability to pull off such a well loved and respected song.

Williams ended her review by giving Running With Scissors a score of 8.5/10, stating the album was a long awaited breath of fresh air.

I had no idea who Janet Devlin was before I checked out this album, but she certainly has a new fan. I absolutely love this album and I look forward to the ones to come. “Running With Scissors” is a consistent collaboration of beautiful melodies, accompanied by an exquisite voice that I could find myself listening to over and over. You should definitely pick this one up, especially if you are looking for an all around calming and beautiful sound. You will not be disappointed.

Arena.com Reviews Janet Devlin’s Debut Album “Running With Scissors”

JD_arena reviewJanet Devlin released her debut album Running With Scissors on February 10th, which has been receiving great reviews. Arena.com is among one of the great reviews. Arena’s Bear Frazer, who previously sat down with the singer-songwriter, had great things to say about Janet’s album Running With Scissors.

If young Janet sounds like a woman scorned, then that’s not inaccurate. Much of the 10-track collection was inspired by the 19-year-old’s break-up from three years earlier, but instead of coming across as a hasty and vengeful ex-girlfriend, she acts more like a hurt soul revisiting the past and is sewing up the wound for good.

That comes across best on tracks like “When You Were Mine,” “Things We Lost In The Fire,” and “Delicate,” where her lyrical creative shines with lines like, “You’re like the first day of winter every day of the year/ ‘Cause you’re too scared to let me in, never close, only near.”

Arena says it best that Running With Scissors is a “therapeutic”debut and it is clear that Janet is wise beyond her years. Janet has been making a great first impression on the United States with this debut.

Janet’s debut album Running With Scissors is now available for purchase on iTunesAmazon, Google Play and our webstore. The album is also streaming on Spotify and Bandcamp. Be sure to check out our exclusive Janet Devlin merchandise in our webstore.

Officially A Yuppie Reviews Janet Devlin’s NYC Showcase

JD- YuppieJanet Devlin recently performed an acoustic showcase in New York City on February 16th. Janet received a great review for her performance by Officially A Yuppie, a music website devoted to bringing you the latest of what is happening in music. “For her Big Apple debut, she played the tiny Red Lion to a packed house listening songs off her just released album, Running with Scissors, and with her covers of Lorde’s “Royals,” Elton John’s “Your Song,” and her show-stopping rendition of The Cure’s “Friday, I’m in Love,” it was enough to make Robert Smith himself crack a smile. She had the eyes and ears of everyone around her hanging on every word and this was just the beginning,” says Officially A Yuppie.

Officially A Yuppie not only attended the exclusive showcase but they also had a chance to sit down and chat with the Irish singer-songwriter. They talked about her first ever trip to New York, in which Janet stated “I got here and did all of the touristy stuff and I actually don’t think I have ever been so happy in my entire life. I can’t explain the absolute joy that was going through me.”

They also discussed Janet’s debut album Running With Scissors, and how her fans react to many of the songs of the album.

“There are certain songs that people have come up to me and burst into tears,” she said. The songs are her introduction and touches people through her words and their connections with them. Songs like “Lifeboat,” “Delicate,” “Whisky Lullabies,” are all themes everyone on this planet has faced, but she sums it up in a way that makes it inimitable. “There are a couple lessons you can learn from the songs,” she said. When making this record, Devlin also learned about herself, “I am more emotionally vulnerable than I ever thought I was.”

Fans can expect much more music from Janet; she has already written some new music about her experience in New York. “I really hope to build a fan base in the U.S. I would love to move here. I would love to live her. I would love work here.” When Officially A Yuppie asked Janet if she believed in the American Dream, she replied, “I just believe in dreams. If your dreams don’t scare you, they are not big enough. There is no bigger place to crack than the States. It is a scary dream, but if I didn’t have it then I got no bigger goals. So I have to make them that big.”
