Inside Edition Interview with Engelbert Humperdinck

Engelbert Humperdinck Discusses His Wife’s Battle With Alzheimer’s with Inside Edition

Sal Bono from Inside Edition recently sat down with Engelbert Humperdinck to discuss his new album, The Man I Want to Be, a love letter to his wife Patricia of 53 years who is suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease.

“It’s difficult sometimes on stage when the lyrics hit you harder than it normally does and you think back on her condition. It sometimes tears you up and you can’t help it. Now an audience will probably understand why I get more emotional than I normally do on stage. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. I don’t think to see a big man cry is a bad thing.” – Engelbert Humperdinck

Humperdinck said he went public with his wife’s condition many years ago to help raise Alzheimer’s awareness and is still hopeful that his wife can recover. “When people know that somebody is not very well and they pray for you, it travels through the air and it’s like a spider’s web,” Humperdinck told Inside Edition. “It comes together and it gets stronger and stronger and stronger and stronger. It’s like an electric current.”

Doubling as a love letter to his wife Patricia, The Man I Want to Be presents the singer in a much more contemporary style and introspective mood, with several of the tracks dealing with Humperdinck’s personal life and struggles. Songs like “Just Like the First Time,” and the duet with his granddaughter Olivia, “I’m Glad I Danced With You” address his wife’s condition directly.

‘The Man I Want To Be’ is available now on OK!Good Records. You can order the CD along with a limited edition Signed Copies and Bundles in the OK!Good Records Shop. The album is also available on AmazoniTunes, SpotifyGoogle Play, Barnes & Noble and at music retailers worldwide.
