Janet Devlin’s New EP ‘Little Lights’ Reviewed By Devious Pop
With the holidays swiftly approaching, it’s a great time to sit back and listen to some new original Christmas music. Janet Devlin has sung her way into our hearts this Christmas with her brand-new joyfully spirited EP, ‘Little Lights‘. So far the EP has had countless positive reactions from Christmas music lovers worldwide. Devious Pop recently crafted a review of the beloved Irish singer-songwriter’s EP. Check it out bellow:
The EP is a mixture of covers and originals and opens on the tragically beautiful ‘Wake Up It’s Christmas’, an original number about heartbreak at Christmas and this is totally something us squirrel friends can relate to… what makes it so tragically beautiful is whilst the song is about heartbreak, she actually sounds like an angel and really dream-like and were really irritated because… like… why is Janet single on Christmas? HMMMMM. It leads nicely into cover of Slade’s ‘Merry Xmas Everybody‘ and Janet slows the pace down and takes the song to it’s lyrical core. It literally feels like a lullaby… note the dream thing again. Bloody Devlin.
‘Merry Christmas Mum & Dad‘ is probably our fave track EVER (well on the EP anyway). It’s a really gentle and sweet song… and having met Janet before, the track makes a lot of sense. She’s a really down-to-earth, family-orientated girl (whose brother wears her TEAM GINGER hoodie #FACT). The track begins with a lower range and it’s really nice to hear. It’s a really cute song and the lyric “you always gave us all you had” goes straight to our heart… if you’re a fan of ‘Mama‘ by The Spice Girls, this is probably the nearest song we’ve had to it. There is also a really cute bridge (or is it middle 8) where Devlin echoes “thank you for the love you gave”. ITS SO FRIGGING GREAT.
It’s beginning to look a little like Christmas and it seems that the old routine of “it’s not Christmas until you hear Mariah / see the Coca Cola ad” might need to have “it’s not Christmas until Janet Devlin drops a new Christmas track” because we are seriously in LOVE with ‘Little Lights‘. Having a mixture of traditional Xmas tracks like ‘White Christmas‘ blending with folky-pop ‘Something Beginning with Chistmas‘ just shows how versatile an artist Janet is and how wonderful of an artist she is. The latter is an absolute joy to listen to and you’ll find yourself swaying along.
