Music Legend Engelbert Humperdinck Featured on Chicago Tribune

International music legend Engelbert Humperdinck will be bringing his worldwide tour to the Paramount Theatre in Aurora, IL on Saturday, November 5th at 8PM. The King of Romance has been featured on the Chicago Tribune for his upcoming performance. “I truly strive to leave a legacy of love through music,” said the 80-year-old singer, who performs about 90 concerts a year around the world. “I think the fans relate to the love that is woven into the songs — it’s the theme of my life thus far. I get so much back from the audiences, and I’m still traveling worldwide doing concerts. A long, long journey is always worth it when I’m greeted by an amazing audience and the company of friends who I have met along the way.”

“I’ve been a name in showbiz for 50 years, but I’ve been chasing this dream since I was 17,” Humperdinck said. “I’m very grateful for not being a flash in the pan….my sideburns would have caught on fire.

“Seriously though, I think it’s the hard work that went into it before my name was up on the marquees,” he said about his continued success. “I worked many small clubs, I did the name change, I had some very tough and lean years, but that was the sod on the path of longevity. I just didn’t want to go back, so I kept moving forward, staying true to my roots, but letting the years and the trends have their way with some of the song choices in the show.”

And Humperdinck has plenty of songs from which to select for the Paramount show.

“I’m so lucky to have a wealth of great material to choose from with the songs I have recorded,” he said. “I had such great writers. It’s hard to pick the songs that will either give the audience just a taste of yesterday, by putting songs in a medley, or doing a full version throwback. Most of the hits had amazing musical introductions that will get the audience going before a single note is sung, and the melodies are so infectious that it’s hard not to sing along.”

Even Humperdinck is amazed at his ongoing popularity and is pleased that he can continue to perform.

“I still can’t believe there is a ‘Ladies and gentlemen…Engelbert Humperdinck’ being announced on stages all over this wonderful world,” he said. “What a thrill and an honor to entertain at 80 years of age. It’s the new 60.”
