You can read some of the exclusive interview below, but be sure to head over to PledgeMusic to read the full interview!

With Christmas or holiday music in general, is there sort of a built in holiday soundtrack for you that is a part of your own memories?
Yeah, to me, this project is trying to get my Christmas fire back almost, because I really went through this phase of not liking Christmas, and actually absolutely despising it. Obviously as a kid, you love it and think it’s the best thing ever because of Santa and stuff. Actually on my first trip to New York, because it was really, really snowy, it was like minus-17 degrees, and I was walking through Central Park and everything was so Christmasy, I decided that this was the year I’m going to get into Christmas. So I went back and wrote a Christmas song with my guitar player and made the promise to myself that I was going to bring the magic back..

Obviously there are a lot of holiday releases like this, when you go into it, do you go in with a certain vision of what you want to add to it or how you put your spin on things?
I think I did that with the writing of the songs really, because I wrote two. So one of them’s like proper reflective, trying to just get that whole message for me that Christmas is about my family, all the gifts opening, and all that kind of stuff. That’s what Christmas is to me. There are little memories in there in the song.

For the more lighthearted aspect of things, it was whenever I was supposed to be learning the vocal for “River,” which is really blooming difficult, the Joni Mitchell song. I took a break and I was like, ‘You know what? It can’t be that hard to write a blooming Christmas song.’ [Laughs] I sat down with my ukelele and it’s like a little party song. It’s like everything and the kitchen sink, and the chorus lyric is “have yourself a merry, happy, jolly, festive Christmastime.” So I kind of wanted to bring a bit of fun back, since the rest was all so serious, to my own Christmas and hopefully my fans’ Christmas as well.

Beyond the holidays, what else is coming up for you? Do you have a good idea of what’s beyond the horizon?
I do, I’m writing album number two at the moment, as well as all this Christmas stuff I’m also trying to write. Hopefully early next year I’ll have as many songs as possible under my belt, so I can go forth and source out producers and then put out another album, another music baby, and hope that people like it. [Laughs]
