“Singer/songwriter Jon Allen has been kicking around London for a few years, writing, recording and opening for the likes of Mark Knopfler (who played on his song “Sarah”), KT Tunstall and Damien Rice and, thanks to his soulful rasp of a voice, garnering acclaim from Jools Holland and Duffy (remember her?) who, hearing him on the radio, initially thought he must be black. Third Album Deep River arrives July 8 in the U.S. and “Night and Day,” recorded live in the studio here, leads the way. “I just try to write music that moves me,” says Allen. “I’m trying to express some truthfulness. There are no gimmicks, no beeps and whistles.””
