LSMedia Interview Paper Aeroplanes

Liverpool’s independent student newspaper, LSMedia recently interviewed Paper Aeroplanes. Currently, Paper Aeroplanes are on a headlining tour, but took the time out to conduct this interview! In their interview, Paper Aeroplanes reveal their history, favorite gigs, future plans, music influences, and more. Read some excerpts from the interview below, and check out the full thing here.

What kinds of influences do you have?

We both love Laura Veirs, Jeff Buckley and The National. I grew up listening to Tori Amos and Radiohead on repeat. Right now, I’m loving the new Bat for Lashes record and First Aid Kit. Rich loves Gillian Welch, Neil young, James Taylor and Willie Mason.

How closely based on personal experiences are your songs?

Most are very closely based. Lots of the lyrics are thoughts rather than stories. I like the songs to be like pages ripped out of a journal… an insight into the inner workings of our brains. The little things we think but don’t usually say.

How would you describe your music to people who have never heard it before?

Emo folk pop. Songs to get lost to…. and possibly shed a tiny tear.

What has been your best live experience?

So far, it was probably one of our Cardiff dates at Clwb Ifor Bach. Like we said earlier Cardiff is always has a homely, family vibe, even when they’re big audiences.
