Get Excited for Record Store Day April 21st 2012

Record Store Day started in 2007 as an international celebration of music and independent record stores and continues to grow a little bit each year. Now, the day has gotten so popular that music nerds look forward to the third Saturday in April the same way kids do with Christmas, and for good reason. This Record Store Day is April 21st and there have been over 350 special releases announced by bands (mostly on vinyl formats) many of which will only be available on the day itself and exclusively at physical record stores. Other releases aren’t exclusive but will be produced in very limited numbers, so they’ll be hard to come by.

The Official Record Store Day website has posted a complete list of bands participating in the day, which you can view as a web page or PDF. The list includes notable bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Arcade Fire, The Black Keys, Foster the People, The Flaming Lips, Fun, Minus the Bear, Neon Trees, Refused, The White Stripes and more.

Some record companies have decided to participate in the day in more unique ways, like Third Man records, who’ve decide to release Jack White’s new single on flexi disc exclusively via a massive helium balloon launch.

So are you excited for Record Store Day 2012? It’s only 17 days away and counting!
