Janet Devlin’s Exclusive Interview With The Janet Devlin Fan Club

Irish singer-songwriter Janet Devlin recently caught up with the head of The Janet Devlin Fan Club, Kieron Hurst, for an exclusive interview before her performance in Manchester on December 9, 2016. The two discussed her ‘My Opium’ Tour, her single “Outernet Song,” and much more. Check out some of the interview below, but be sure to head over to TheJanetDevlinFanClub.com for the full interview and everything Janet Devlin.

Since the X Factor how do you feel your career has progressed?
“Well on a general level lots because when I was doing the show (X Factor) I was just doing covers. I think it has only ever gone upwards and I haven’t taken any steps backwards yet. I feel it is in Leaps and Bounds.”

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
“I don’t really think that far ahead if im honest, hopefully I will have made more music and toured more and doing exactly what im doing just on maybe a bigger level. That’s the goal to keep going.”

Who would you most like to collaborate with on a track?
“I’m going to go for the most popular so either Bon Iver or Ed Sheeran, yeah so one or the other”

What has the tour been like so far?
“The tour has been great, we have done loads of promo which has been new as we only got a little amount of promo last time, so its been mental, im just wrecked but in the best way possible because every night even though im exhausted when I hang around at the end and see everyone and they tell you what they thought of the gig I know this is why I do it, this is why its worth it and why I keep wanting to do it.”

You have places like Twitter, Facebook and the Twitter DM group Banter Bus but is there any where else you like to connect with fans?
“I’m pretty much on all the social media going, because of that its good when people come to shows because I recognize people and when someone comes up to me I can say “oh you are such and such from Twitter” and finally put a face to the name.”

What is the meaning behind “Outernet Song”?
“Because it was written over 3 years ago it’s kinda got loads of different meaning in it. When I went and revisited it 3 months before I released it I knew I needed a chorus and looked at the song and realized it was mostly about social media and perceptions of social media and my experience of it, so I thought why not put a wee twist on it and say lets not all go outside into the outernet.”

Have you enjoyed making “Little Lights” EP and do you have your next album planned?
“Little Lights was probably one of the hardest things i have ever had to record, there was so many problems and everything kept going wrong, however when I heard it I was amazed and proud. As for Holy Water (the next album) it is in the works and January and February im in lock down and just writing and writing as i already have like 45 songs for the album I just need that great song, all the songs are good but not great (I doubt that :p) so i’m trying to write a hit, it is scheduled to come out next year.”
