Lyrics: “Dancing in the Dark” by Bruce Springsteen

I get up in the evening and I ain’t got nothing to say
I come home in the morning, I go to bed feelin’ the same way
I ain’t nothing but tired, man I’m just tired and bored with myself
Hey there baby, I could use just a little help

You can’t start a fire, you can’t start a fire without a spark
This gun’s for hire even if we’re just dancing in the dark

Message just keep getting clearer, radio’s on and I’m moving ’round my place
I check my look in the mirror, I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face
Man, I ain’t getting nowhere, I’m just living in a dump like this
There’s something happening somewhere, baby I just know that there is

You can’t start a fire, you can’t start a fire without a spark
This gun’s for hire even if we’re just dancing in the dark

You sit around getting older, there’s a joke here somewhere and it’s on me
I’ll shake this world off my shoulders, come on baby this laugh’s on me

Stay on the streets of this town and they’ll be carving you up alright
They say you gotta stay hungry, hey baby, I’m just about starving tonight
I’m dying for some action, I’m sick of sitting ’round here tryin’ to write this book
I need a love reaction, come on now baby gimme just one look

You can’t start a fire sitting ’round cryin’ over a broken heart
This gun’s for hire even if we’re just dancing in the dark
You can’t start a fire worryin’ about your little world fallin’ apart
This gun’s for hire even if we’re just dancing in the dark
Even if we’re just dancing in the dark

Jon Allen – ‘Deep River’ Out Now!

Jon Allen - Deep River

OK! Good Records is proud to announce the US release of Jon Allen’s third solo album, Deep River, available in our webstore now! Fans can also find the album on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify, Bandcamp and at other major retailers.

Deep River is the follow-up to OK! Good Records’ 2012 release of Jon’s album Sweet Defeat, and features the BBC Radio 2 hit and opening track, “Night & Day.” The album sees Jon channeling his wide range of influences as he mixes catchy Sixties-inflected rock, soul, and country blues. “I just try to write music that moves me,” says Jon. “I’m trying to express some truthfulness. There are no gimmicks, no beeps and whistles.”

Folk Radio UK recently named Deep River one of their Featured Albums of the Month, and did an interview with Jon where he touches on his inspirations for the album and his songwriting process:

“The songs for Deep River were pretty much all written in 2013. When I got back off tour I began focusing more intensely on the melodies and ideas I had built up on the Dictaphone on my phone whilst I’d been touring. In 2013 I started a relationship and in the same year we broke up, so many of the song are informed by the experience of love and the highs and lows that come with it.”
