Bob Dylan Receives Medal Of Freedom From Obama

Bob Dylan received the prestigious Medal Of Freedom today from President Barack Obama along with 12 other recipients. The award coincides with Dylan’s 50th anniversary in show biz, since releasing his first album in 1962.

“There is not a bigger giant in the history of American music,” Obama said during a packed ceremony in the East Room of the White House.

While Dylan’s musical and intellectual contribution to the civil rights movement of the 1960s was indeed great, and it may be true that he’s someone more deserving of the medal than some other people in the past, the cynic in me can’t help but see a lack genuineness on the part of the President. The whole thing could be interpreted to be a convenient photo-op for a campaigning president who would undoubtedly like to win votes from an entire generation of baby-boomer who are increasingly more right leaning as their 401Ks tank and the economy continues to sag….but I’ll leave the politics for the political blogs.

So forget all that and cheers to Bob Dylan. He’s touched and inspired many souls with his music!
